Position: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) ensures delivery of comprehensive health and mental health care in accordance with the philosophy, standard of practice, objectives and policies of The Door. The PMHNP will function in an expanded role, primarily in the Counseling Center (MHOTRS; formerly article 31), and provide consult and interdisciplinary support to primary care, reproductive, social work, and other providers within the Adolescent Health Center (FQHC and Article 28) ongoing and as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a caseload of Counseling Center patients for regular treatment and psychotropic medication management
- Work collaboratively with Counseling Center therapists to plan treatment and ensure the effective interdisciplinary treatment of all patients
- Perform intake assessments and comprehensive evaluations for ongoing treatment and other population needs; prescribes medications and treatments as appropriate
- Works with patients to ensure an understanding of and compliance with the therapeutic regimen with established protocols and recognize when to refer the patient to a physician or other health care provider
- Provide psychotherapy support and psychoeducation by means of individual, group, and family service engagement
- Serve as a core member of The Door’s crisis intervention team
- Be a core member and leader in complex care management with internal and external entities
- Provide regular consult to the Adolescent Health Center social worker and providers to ensure effective wholistic collaborative care
- Identifies available community resources helpful to clients, refers and assists clients in utilizing such resources
- Perform responsibilities in person, and via telehealth, as needed and dictated by the individual client’s needs and preferences
- Meets regulatory, licensure, and compliance requirements for the agency, and local, state and federal requirements and best practices. Serve as a role model and resource person for professional and paraprofessional staff
- Performs other relevant duties as delegated by supervisor
Qualifications:
- Currently licensed/registered by the state of New York as a Registered Nurse AND Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry
- Board certification required
- DEA Controlled Substance Registration Certificate required
- Three plus years of experience
- Knowledge of NYS Office of Mental Health MHOTRS (Article 31) guidelines preferred
- Experience with health and mental health as it relates to adolescent health and youth development
- Proficiency in use of electronic medical records, preferably eClinicalWorks (eCW) software
- Demonstrates ability to work in a holistic, multi-disciplinary, fast-paced environment
- Compassionate and energetic provider with excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse and/or high-risk populations
- Bilingual English / Spanish a plus!
Hours: 35 hours a week, some evening hours (crises and special events)
Compensation: Starting at $130,000 – $140,000; Commensurate with experience; Excellent benefits
