Job Description
Job Title: Bankruptcy Paralegal
Location: Kansas City, MO 64114
Salary/Payrate: Salary Depends on experience and AWESOME benefits!!!
Work Environment: Hybrid (1-2 days WFH after initial 90 day ramp up period)
Term: Permanent / Fulltime

Bankruptcy Paralegal with 3+ years in the role of paralegal with a solid background in creditors’ rights matters and litigation, and a strong background in technology.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Be an essential and contributing member of the Team!
- Draft, review, proofread, and e-file proofs of claim, motions for relief from stay, objections to discharge, adversary complaints, and other bankruptcy-related pleadings.
- Prepare and file responses to debtor motions and trustee requests.
- Coordinate with clients to collect financial information, loan documents, perfection and chain of title documents to ensure all necessary information and documents are included.
- Organize and maintain bankruptcy cases for clients
- Assist with investigations into assets, UCC filings, liens on titles, bank accounts, etc.
- Compile and redact exhibits for hearings and filings.
- Monitor e-filing notifications for updates throughout the referral process and communicate updates to clients and attorneys.
- Analysis of various bankruptcy filings, including petitions, schedules, pleadings and plans.
- Communicate and coordinate with clients, bankruptcy courts, trustees, and opposing counsel regarding hearings, filings, case status, and other bankruptcy related matters.
- Schedule and prepare for meetings, hearings, depositions, and trial preparation as needed.
- Assist attorneys with hearing and trial preparation.
- Be familiar with federal, state and local court rules to ensure all filings comply with local, state, and federal bankruptcy rules.
- Track/calendar case progress, including service dates, answer dates, and other applicable milestones and deadlines.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Strong knowledge of bankruptcy procedures, especially Chapter 7, 11 and 13.
- Strong problem-solving abilities; adept at independent thinking and managing projects efficiently with minimal supervision.
- The ability to work on and track a high volume caseload in multiple states.
- Knowledge of creditors’ rights matters, the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act and other compliance regulations.
- Analytical skills to include proficiency in the review of loan documents.
- Solid understanding of the Uniform Commercial Code to include lien perfection and chain of title.
- Knowledge of PACER and State Court Software, such as CaseNet,
- Knowledge of CaseAware, BestCase or other bankruptcy software – CaseAware being a plus.
- Technology skills and knowledge in the development of default servicing/creditors’ rights processes, to include maintaining team’s CaseAware case management system or similar type of case management software. This would include developing default serving processes in the firm’s CaseAware case management system for multiple creditors’ rights teams to include process build-outs, document coding, back-end set up and maintenance.
- Technology skills and knowledge of CaseAware or other bankruptcy software.
- Skilled in preparing various legal documents and communications under the direction of an attorney.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Track time in the firm’s time management system
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Suite products.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with Sandberg Phoenix team members in a client-oriented environment.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies, or completion of an accredited paralegal program, .
- 3+ years of experience as a paralegal with bankruptcy
