Atlantic Health is Seeking a Physician Assistant for Surgical Services at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, New Jersey
The Department of Surgery at Overlook Medical Center is seeking a board-certified full-time Physician Assistant (PA) to join its team. We are a hospital-based group that offers a supportive and team-based environment with exposure to multiple surgical subspecialties. Responsibilities primarily include OR first assistant coverage as well as management of admissions, consults, rounding support, post-op management, bedside procedures and discharge of patients. This position is a great opportunity for growth and exposure to high acuity patients, complex procedures with an emphasis and high volume of DaVinci Robotic Surgery cases.
The PA should be collaborative and versed in all aspects of General Surgery including laparoscopic procedures. The ideal candidate will bring a positive and caring attitude, excellent communication skills, clinical expertise, and previous operative experience. Successful candidates will have access to the Da Vinci Robotic system and an opportunity to increase their knowledge and skillset in robotics.
OR First Assisting– case coverage includes but is not limited to the specialties of General Surgery, Colorectal, Hepatobiliary, GYN/ GynOnc, Urology, Head and Neck, Bariatric Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, and Thoracic; as it all can be applied to utilization with the DaVinci Robotic Surgical System.
Rounding Support– The PA can and may assist with rounding on any pre or post operative patients throughout various specialties such as general surgery, surgical oncology, bariatric and urology patients. This can be done as a team-based approach with attending’s, surgical residents, medical students and PA students
Admissions/ Consults– The PA can and may be responsible for admissions and consults for patients in the emergency department and inpatient floors.
Floor Procedures– The PA can and may be responsible for floor procedures including NG tube and difficult foley insertion, wound vac changes, bedside I&D, and other indicated procedures.
This position is for three 12-hour shifts per week or four 10-hour shifts per week depending on coverage needs. There is an extensive onboarding and training period as well as a supportive environment for collaboration and learning.

Qualifications
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program – NCCPA certified
- 1-3 years of surgical experience/ surgical residency trained candidates preferred, but new graduates will be considered
- Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in New Jersey
- ACLS and BLS required
- Completion of post graduate surgical residency/fellowship is a plus
- DaVinci Certification is preferred
- Must be knowledgeable and comfortable in laparoscopic procedures
