Job Description
The Paralegal supports the Compliance & Legal Department by performing legal research, managing legal documentation, responding to subpoenas and member legal requests, tracking complaints and cases, and actively contributing to the credit union’s compliance program. This role also includes administrative and ministerial duties to ensure smooth departmental operations and support for audits, examinations, and training programs. The Paralegal provides daily operational support to internal departments and branches on legal, compliance, risk-related issues and is involved in various cross-functional projects.

NATURE & SCOPE:
- Owns legal reporting and creates reports to inform stakeholders.
- Assists in drafting, reviewing, and maintaining compliance policies and procedures in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Supports internal compliance monitoring and testing activities, including preparation for audits and regulatory examinations.
- Collects, reviews and analyzes legal requests made by members and outside parties.
- Assists in matters subject to legal holds to gather and preserve all potentially relevant data.
- Establish data, metrics and benchmarking through multiple sources to evaluate trends and cost of compliance and legal risk to prioritize resources.
- Monitor regulatory changes and assist in implementing necessary updates to policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of compliance materials including disclosures, applications, and notices.
- Provides key input to the compliance and legal process.
- Maintain the compliance help desk and respond to staff inquiries.
- Strong time-management skills to maintain or exceed expected daily workload, while also maintaining overall team defined internal service standard.
- Collaborates with management to define and establish key risk indicators to effectively monitor and predict increasing compliance, legal, and risk conditions.
- Participates in project teams, committees and focus groups related to operational process improvement initiatives.
- Completes thorough and accurate work.
- Provides operational support in the Compliance, Legal, and Risk Management departments as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned/required.
Compliance Responsibilities
- Monitor and interpret federal and state regulations applicable to credit union operations.
- Assist in the development and implementation of compliance training programs.
- Maintain and update the compliance library, including regulatory guidance, policies, and procedures.
- Track and report compliance metrics and trends to senior leadership.
