Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Paralegalto support a New York-based Estate Planning Attorney and an Immigration/Family Law practice. This is a fast-paced, high-volume role that requires exceptional organizational skills, legal research ability, and the capacity to manage multiple cases from intake to filing with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in U.S. estate planning, probate, and immigration law, and be comfortable liaising with clients and preparing complex legal documents.
Key Responsibilities:
Estate Planning & Probate
- Prepare legal documents including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance healthcare directives.
- Assist with probate processes, including preparing court filings, managing documentation, and communicating with beneficiaries/executors.
- Conduct legal research to support estate planning strategies and ensure compliance with federal and state laws.
- Support estate-related litigation by preparing pleadings, discovery documents, and trial materials.
Immigration & Family Law
- Manage immigration cases from start to finish, including employment-based (H-1B, L-1, E-1/E-2, O visas), family-based, and investor petitions.
- Draft and review petitions, applications, support letters, and other immigration-related documentation.
- Ensure all filings are accurate and comply with current U.S. immigration laws and regulations.
- Communicate with clients, government agencies, and relevant stakeholders regarding case status and requirements.
General Legal Support
- Liaise with clients to gather necessary information, explain legal concepts, and provide case updates.
- Maintain organized and compliant client files, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Utilize legal case management software (e.g., Lawmatics, Clio, LexisNexis, Westlaw, Casetext, or similar).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Law and/or Juris Doctor degree preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in a U.S. law firm (Estate Planning and/or Immigration/Family Law).
- Required: Strong knowledge of New York Trust & Estate Planning and U.S. Immigration Law.
- Proven experience in legal research, case discovery, and legal writing.
- Familiarity with case management systems (Lawmatics, Clio, eImmigration, Foreign Program, etc.).
- Advanced fluency in American English (written and oral).
- Excellent personal presentation, professional telephone manner, and strong interpersonal skills.
